Michigan's largest health insurance carrier says it continues to lose money on its coverage for individuals.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is urging for changes in state law that could help its business by the end of the year. The proposed changes have drawn criticism from competitors and Attorney General Mike Cox. Cox says the legislation would drastically increase rates and would take away oversight from his office and the governors office. According to Mike Cox the bill, among other things, would extend the term of pre-existing conditions, and decrease coverage for chronic illnesses, by as much as 80-percent. Blue Cross Blue Shield says its individual market segment lost $111 million in the first nine months of this year.
