According to the Chronicle of Higher Education released Monday, University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman earned a little more than $760,000 in the 2007-2008 academic year. The report says university president salaries were up more than seven and a half percent last year. Most were a result of contracts signed before the sharp economic downturn. Boards that govern colleges argue that retaining top talent is even more critical during a crisis. Gordon Gee of Ohio State was the highest paid public university president, earning more than $1.3 million.
