Find out how your county voted in the Presidential Election
The election is over - and now we're now getting a clearer picture of just how northern Michigan voted.
Much of the Grand Traverse region voted for John McCain, with Antrim and Kalkaska showing a 10-point victory for the republican. In Grand Traverse County it was much closer: 51 to 48 percent for McCain. And it was very similar in Wexford County.
But Missaukee County was huge McCain territory - leaning nearly 60-40 for the republican.
The tip of the mitt and the Eastern U-P were also leaning heavily for John McCain. From Otsego, Cheboygan, and Emmet County - and across the bridge into Mackinac, Chippewa, and Luce counties - all of which backed the republican.
On the flip side... Barack Obama was the favored candidate in many lakeshore counties. From Leelanau and Benzie, to Manistee and Mason counties, Obama was the clear favorite. In Muskegon the vote was 64 to 35 in favor of the democratic candidate.
Other Obama strongholds in our area - Isabella County which went 59-40 for Obama, and Lake County where Obama got a solid 55 percent of the vote.
In all, 36 counties voted for McCain - but the balance of the state went for Obama. Much of that support came in the southeastern part of the state.... The Detroit area and Wayne county went 74 percent for Obama. Next door in Washtenaw county it was 70%-29%. And in the state capitol: results from Ingham County show Obama won with 66 percent of the vote.
Statewide Obama won Michigan with 57 percent of the vote - 2.8 Million people supported him, while just over 2 million voters backed John McCain.
