A 61-year-old fugitive found in Wexford County will be sent back to prison downstate after being on the run for 40 years.

The US Marshall's Office and Wexford County Sheriff's Office teamed up to catch a fugitive who escaped from prison almost 40 years ago. Officers say the 61-year-old woman escaped from prison in 1970 and has been on the run ever since. The woman, whose name is not yet being released, was originally sentenced to 25-35 years for assault while trying to commit armed robbery in Genesee County. She'll now be sent back to the original jurisdiction for arraignment.
