Champion Trees planted in Leland

More than a dozen volunteers came out to Leland to assist in the planting.

The largest Champion Tree planting in the state took place in Leelanau County Monday. More than a dozen volunteers came out to Leland to assist in the planting. The trees were planted along Lake Leelanau Drive.  Most of the trees were Champion Sugar Maples.

There was also a Teddy Roosevelt Beech Tree from his estate on Long Island. The first clone from a tree that Louis and Clark are said to have camped under on their way west.

they also planted clones of four Champion Black Willows from Traverse City.
