TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Veterans Day: Did you know?

Veterans Day, America pauses and honors the brave men and women who served our country.

Veterans Day is not about one war.

It’s not about one branch of service.

It’s about one nation, and the millions of people who fought for its honor.

Here are some statistics, from the Department of Veterans Affairs (2010), which may surprise you:

 
16,112,566 men and women were enlisted during Word War II.

As of May 2010, 2,079,000 were estimated to still be alive.

5,720,000 were enlisted in the service during the Korean War (1950-1953).

More than 2.5 million Korean War veterans are said to sill be alive.

As of 2010, the United States military had 1,417,370 active duty members.
