SCOTTVILLE -- A local 5th grader got a huge surprise this afternoon in front of his entire class, his dad!

Sergeant First Class Darin Schultz just returned home from serving our country in Afghanistan. He was supposed to come home on Saturday with other soldiers on a bus, but was kept back for minor medical reasons. His son, Brandon was devastated because he hasn't seen his dad for a year.

The principle at Scottville's Upper Elementary brought a hundred 5th graders into the gymnasium Thursday afternoon for what the students thought was going to be an assembly with members from the media. That's when Brandon's dad surprised him.

Sergeant First Class Darin Schultz is a member of the Army National Guard. This was his second tour of duty.
