TRAVERSE CITY -- While many of us are celebrating the 4th of July with picnics and fireworks, one Northern Michigan Marine is spending it miles away from home in a dangerous war zone.

Lieutenant Edward Beyne from Traverse City is currently serving our country in Afghanistan. He says being so far away from home is making him realize how much he misses celebrating Independence Day out on the lake with his family and all the Cherry Festival activities.

Lt. Beyne says, "Oh man, even thinking about what I would do in Traverse City makes me smile. I would probably spend most of my days on the beach down by the volleyball courts. I would put my boat in the water."

Lieutenant Beyne says he and other soldiers are fighting everyday against the enemy trying to make it safer so people can enjoy their lives.
