LUDINGTON, MI -- A 2001 Ludington High School graduate serving in the National Guard has been critically injured in Afghanistan, losing both arms and attaining several other injuries.

Eric Lund was on patrol with his unit in Afghanistan in the lead vehicle's gun turret when they encountered an improvised IED, which flipped the vehicle. A second vehicle came for support and hit a second IED, while also being attacked by gunfire. All ten men in the vehicles were injured, but Lund's injuries were most serious.

Lund is considered "critically injured" and is currently intubated and in a medically induced coma to help with the pain.

While Lund's injuries are extensive, he is reportedly able to move all extremities and is responsive when they reduce sedation.

We were told that he was moved to Germany for recovery.

Lund's family says they appreciate the prayers and support they've received from the community.
