MONTMORENCY COUNTY -- The results of a pre-liminary autopsy released Monday show 16-year-old Travis Armstrong died of hypothermia.

"We concluded that he may have walked away from a party that he was at earlier on Friday evening. However, we have not been able to confirm at this point and the case is still under investigation," State Police Detective Sgt. Steve Hershberger said.

State Police were called to Culver Rd. in Atlanta Saturday morning around 8:30, where they found Armstrong's body in a nearby snow bank. Investigators say they still have a lot of questions.

"There is an indication that there was alcohol involved at the party but it's premature at this point indicate whether or not Mr. Armstrong had consumed any alcohol at the stage," Sgt. Hershberger said.

Armstrong was home schooled, but many of his friends went to Atlanta schools. Early Monday, the district had grief counselors on campus to speak with kids.

"We've been counseling the kids and didn't only want to offer services for the children, but we wanted to offer them for the entire community, we have seven counselors in place," Atlanta Schools Superintendent Donald Haskin said.

Friends say Armstrong was a pretty down to earth guy. They say he was extremely talented when it came to mechanic work. He loved dirt bikes and whenever a friend needed their bike fixed, he was there to help.

"You can just tell things are different, people aren't as happy, friends that we hang out with make a lot of jokes and are funny guys, but it's just not the same today," Armstrong's friend Drew Helcher said.
