Volunteers help fight world hunger by shipping out over 15,000 meals to hungry people all over the world.

GRAND TRAVERSE -- For the seventh year, the Kiwanis family of Traverse City packaged nearly 15,000 meals to be shipped to hungry people all around the world, and locally.
The project teams up with Kids Against Hunger Coalition of Michigan.
Today, more than 75 Kiwanis volunteers met inside of Traverse City Central High School's cafeteria to assemble the food packages.
The Kiwanis clubs sponsored youth clubs from area schools also took part in the project.
"It's a great way to take an inner generational activity of service and help a lot of struggling children and adults across the globe, but here in our local area that are hungry," said board member Matt Wiliford.
Each package contains six nutritious meals, enough for a family of six, developed by scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills, and Archer Daniels Midland.
The meals contained a rice and soy mixture with chicken and various vegetable flavors.
A total of $4,200 was raised to support the packaging of the meals
