CADILLAC -- The Cadillac community will come together this weekend to honor a fallen officer.  Officer William Kanitz died while on duty earlier this week after he suffered a heart attack.

50-year-old Kanitz was found unconscious by his work partner.  Kanitz was a 23-year veteran of the Cadillac Police Department.

If you would like to pay your respects to Officer Kanitz, there will be a viewing Friday at Peterson's Funeral Home in Cadillac from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  There will also be an evening service from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be held Saturday in the Cadillac High School gym starting at 11 a.m.

The Wexford County Sheriff's Department has been called in to help officers while the department grieves the loss of Kanitz.

Kanitz was with the department for 23 years.
