LEELANAU COUNTY -- The Leelanau County Sheriffs Department is alerting people to stay off of the roads in Leelanau County due to extremely hazardous conditions.

Officials say many roads are down to one lane or are completely covered with drifting snow.

The Sheriffs Department cautions people who do have to travel on the roads to lower their speed and keep alert for snow drifts and high winds.

Officials advise that you store extra food, water, clothing and blankets in your car and make sure your cell phone has a full charge. The Sheriffs Department said if you do get stuck in the road or are involved in an accident, they advise that you turn on your emergency flashers, call 911, and make sure you stay alert for oncoming traffic.
