TRAVERSE CITY -- The Greenspire School in Traverse City held its first ever Family Stem Night Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The event was filled with hands-on science activities and was free and open to the public.

People of all ages had the chance to learn more about STEM education. Stem stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

"The night came about as an open house idea to get families to come and check out and explore our curriculum and facility," said Principal of Greenspire School Sarah Johnson.

There were hands-on activity stations for math origami, LEGO robots, comet making, structure building activities and more.

Tiger Lamide, a sixth-grade student at The Greenspire School said he loves what he has learned so far.

"We get to go outside more often to learn about scientific things like photosynthesis and you know just cool things," Lamide said.

People could also explore the Greenspire School green house, use telescopes to find the moon and Jupiter, and also learn how to conduct electricity using lemon juice power.
