LANSING (AP) -- State records show that Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun contributed $5.1 million this week to the campaign for his ballot proposal to restrict construction of competing Michigan-Ontario border crossings.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Moroun made the contributions Tuesday and Wednesday. It follows $4.7 million he gave to the campaign through July. A report on spending from July through last Sunday is due Friday.

Proposal 6 would change the Michigan Constitution to require approval by a majority of Michigan voters on any new international crossing that gets public funding.

Gov. Rick Snyder and Canadian leaders reached a deal in June on a new Canadian-built bridge that would be financed through tolls.

Moroun's bridge now is the only truck crossing between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
