CADILLAC, MI -- Like so many districts in northern Michigan, the 102nd plays host a Democratic battleground in the August Primary. Consistent with other districts, the winner will face a Republican incumbent come November.

August 7, Democratic voters in Wexford, Mecosta and Osceola County will choose between Brendan Maturen and George Huffman III.

“In the past couple years, they taxed pensions for seniors. I really think that needs to be repealed. We got to make things easier for people. Not harder,” said Huffman III.

Maturen has focused much of his campaign on education reform. “Michigan really needs to make education a top priority. It’s good public policy for many reasons. Not only does a good education prepare kids for the very technical and competitive global economy, but also it attracts employers,” Maturen said.

Republican Incumbent Phil Potvin has an uncontested Primary.
