SAGOLA TOWNSHIP -- National Rifle Association-certified instructors in one Upper Peninsula county are offering free pistol license classes for teachers and other school employees.

The announcement follows the killing of 20 children and six teachers at a Connecticut school by a man wielding his mother's assault rifle.

Our sister station WLUC-TV says the Sagola Sportsman's Club in Dickinson County is offering the classes using NRA-certified instructors from the group Bullseyes to Badguys. Sagola Township is 25 miles north of Iron Mountain.

Instructor Anthony Erickson says he "saw it as an opportunity to arm our teachers should they want to."

Erickson says many teachers have taken pistol classes before but aren't allowed to bring their weapons to school.

Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed a bill to let people carry concealed guns in churches and schools.
