Road crews across northern Michigan are clearing the way for drivers after a winter storm hit the area.

According to 7&4 Meteorologist Christina Burkhart,  many people woke up to about 3-4 inches of snow Friday morning.  Other areas received as much as 7-8" including Gaylord, Houghton Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Rogers City and Interlochen.

With northerly winds gusting up to 30mph, blowing and drifting snow are causing problems for road crews. The Wexford County Road Commission reports north and south roads are having problems with drifting.  Wexford County had six trucks out from midnight until 7am.  There were 21 trucks, which is Wexford County's entire fleet,  clearing the roads in starting at 7am.

The Emmet County Road Commission had three trucks on the road from 6pm Thursday until 6am Friday morning. The road crews were out in full force by 6am with 25 trucks tackling the snow.

The weather impacted the day for students, with nearly 100 schools shutting down.

A winter storm warning until 7pm for Leelanau, Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Manistee, Wexford, Mason, Lake, and Osceola counties.
