NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- The chilly and snowy weather pattern Northern Michigan has been in since the start of the week is slowly coming to an end with some sunshine and somewhat warmer temperatures by the start of the weekend.

There have been some impressive lake effect snow totals in our viewing area. Leading the pack is Newberry where 19.2" of snow has fallen since Monday when this event started. A park ranger at Tahquamenon Falls State Park wrote to me that 16" fell there in about 48 hours with 41" still on the ground! In Lower Michigan, several spots saw close to a foot such as Wellston and Interlochen.

While lake effect snow showers will continue to swipe the area from time to time Thursday into Thursday night, the overall coverage of snow and intensity will not be nearly as great with another 1-3" of snow forecasted for the lake prone snowbelts. Outside of there, less than in inch of snow is forecasted.

Temperatures will climb back closer to normal by the start of the weekend with highs Saturday reaching to the upper-30's along with some sunshine.
