MACKINAC ISLAND -- A Mackinac Island woman is dead after losing control of a snowmobile and hitting a tree.

It happened at 5:45pm Monday on M-185 on the west side of Mackinac Island.  Police say Rebecca Mentzer, 51,  lost control of the snowmobile and left the roadway.  Mentzer was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger on the snowmobile, also from Mackinac Island, was thrown from the sled.  The passenger was not hurt.

The Mackinac Island Police Department is still investigating and waiting for a toxicology report to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
