Voters approved tax increases in two northern Michigan school districts.
The Mancelona Public School District was given the green light for a .30 mill increase. Superintendent Jeff Dirosa says the 1.9-million-dollars raised by the levy will be used to buy more than a dozen new buses. The money will also help with technology upgrades.
The millage passed by an unofficial result of 350 votes in favor, and 161 votes against. Voters in Mason County approved an operating millage proposal for the Mason County Central School District. The operating millage proposal will allow the district to levy the statutory rate on property.
The Mason County millage passed by a narrow margin, with 242 votes in favor and 218 against.
Voters in Mason County also weighed in on an annexation proposition for the Free Soil Community School District. This allows Free Soil to be annexed to the Mason County Eastern School District effective July 1, 2013.
The unofficial result from Tuesday's election for the Free Soil Community School annexation proposition is: Yes - 133 No - 8.
Free Soil Township also voted on funding road improvements. The issue passed by a vote of 66 to 50.
