NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- Another in a series of winter storms will plow across parts of Michigan Tuesday night/Wednesday, but the heaviest snow will fall across Southern Michigan.

This storm brought Amarillo, Texas its snowiest day ever Monday with 18" of snow falling! Much of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri also got nailed with many spots seeing well over a foot of snowfall. The good news for these folks is that a severe to exceptional drought is still ongoing across the breadbasket of America, and back to back winter storms are helping to replenish the soil with moisture which is badly needed.

This winter storm will take a track that brings the axis of heaviest snow on a line from Chicago through far Southern Michigan into the Detroit area and then up into the Thumb where 5-8" of snow is possible.

Closer to home, we are forecasting the highest snow totals from Alpena south into Alcona County through the Midland and Tri-Cities region where 3-5" of snow is likely through Wednesday evening. While all of Northern Michigan will cloud over Wednesday with occasional light snow showers, outside of the aforementioned areas, accumulation will be light to almost nothing from Traverse City north into the Eastern Upper Peninsula.

We will enter the month of March Friday like a lamb with some sunshine into the weekend along with cooler temperatures with 20's for highs.
