NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- Northern Michigan will get a break from the weather as lighter winds along with peeks of sunshine take over for Thursday before the next storm system sweeps in Friday/Saturday.

High pressure will build in briefly Thursday breaking up the clouds somewhat with rare February sunshine attempting to peek through. For some residents, it will be a welcome reprieve from the recent blowing/drifting of snow.

In the meantime, the Central/Southern Plains are getting pummeled with freezing rain and snow as a major winter storm slams areas such as Wichita, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri with more than a foot of snow and significant icing issues there.

That same storm will track right towards Northern Michigan, but will be rapidly weakening as it approaches. The good news for those with travels is that while it does cloud over by Friday, only pockets of light snow and snow showers are forecasted with most of the area seeing under two inches of snow Friday into Saturday.

Temperatures will be in the low-20's Friday and warm and hold in the low/mid-30's through next week.
