TRAVERSE CITY -- City of Traverse City's Manager Ben Bifoss announced his retirement on Monday, January 28th after serving four years.

In a letter to City Commissioners on Monday, Bifoss said he has enjoyed his position, especially engaging with City Commissioners and Traverse City residents. He said the decision comes with regret, but it's the right time.

Mayor Michael Estes says he will miss working with Bifoss, and says the Commission's biggest hurdle now is finding his replacement.

A recruitment process will start next week and will top the agenda at the February 4 Commissioner's meeting.

Bifoss replaced Richard Lewis as City Manager in November, 2008.  He said today he will work through June 28th, 2013.
