TRAVERSE CITY -- A rash of catalytic converter thefts have cost more than half a dozen area businesses thousands of dollars.

Businesses like Britten Banners and Sonny's Body Shop, off Cass Rd in Grand Traverse County, were hit in the last few weeks.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department says the thieves steal the converters for scrap.

The metal, platinum, can bring as much as $1500 per ounce.

So far, there have been no arrests.
