SAULT STE MARIE (AP) -- The board that oversees the bridge between the neighboring cities Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan and Ontario has voted to spend $2 million on a toll plaza redevelopment project next year.

The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority directors acted at their quarterly meeting in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on Thursday.

The $7.7 million 2013 budget that the board passed includes $7.2 million in expected toll revenue and $487,000 from leases, fees and other sources.

The Evening News says budgeted expenditures include $4.7 million for regular operations and $3 million for the plaza and other capital expenses.

General Manager Phil Becker says work on the two-year plaza project should start in June and cost $6.7 million.

The bridge marked its 50th anniversary in 2012.
