TRAVERSE CITY -- An Alden man is charged with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy in Traverse City.
Brandon Smith, 26, was arraigned Friday morning. Smith is charged with First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Aggravated Indecent Exposure and being a habitual offender. He faces life in prison if found guilty of the charges.
7&4 News first reported last week about an 8-year-old boy who was followed home from the skate park and sexually assaulted.
Police detectives got a tip from a retired state police trooper who handled a similar case. They discovered Smith, who had previously been convicted of sexual assault, was released from prison. Police searched his home in Alden and say they found clothes he was wearing the day of the assault.
