Body discovered in ashes of burned barn

Montcalm County Sheriff's Investigators found a body after a barn burned to the ground.

SHERIDAN -- A body was discovered Tuesday morning in the ashes of a Montcalm County barn that burned down. The fire happened around 2:30 Tuesday morning at the barn on M-66 south of Sheridan in Bushnell Township.

The sheriff's office says several fire departments were called to the scene when the fire broke out. After putting the fire out, crews discovered the body.

The State Fire Marshall has been called to the scene to investigate since a person died. Sheriff's detectives are also on scene helping with the investigation. At this point they have not said what caused the fire or the man's death. We are told the barn was destroyed.
