Deputies investigating a crash on M-37 South in Grand Traverse County say two people were killed in the crash.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Norton Road. Investigators say a northbound pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old Manton man crossed the centerline and struck a southbound semi truck hauling bees. There were two men in the semi, the passenger was able to make it out of the vehicle after the crash and was treated for injuries at the scene.

The 22-year-old man driving the pick up truck and the 27-year-old Suttons Bay man driving the semi truck both were pronounced deceased at the scene. The roadway was closed for about 6 hours as crews cleaned up the scene.

The semi involved in the accident was transporting bee hives. Bee keepers had to be brought in to try and pick up pieces of the hive that were scattered along the road. First responders also had to try and protect themselves from being stung.

Deputies are still investigating the crash. If anyone was at the scene and witnessed the crash are urged to contact the Sheriff's Office at 231-995-5000 between the hours of 8am and 4pm. After those hours please contact the Sheriff's Office at 231-922-4550
