GARFIELD TOWNSHIP -- After a string of attacks on the Tart Trail system this summer, many are taking steps to better protect themselves. In fact, this weekend dozens of women attended a free self defense awareness workshop in Grand Traverse County.

Garfield Township parks and recreation hosted this free lesson in defensive tactics at Grand Traverse Metro Station Number 12 Saturday afternoon.

Members of the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department Traverse City Police and Grand Metro Fire Department teamed up to teach the participants important skills. The women learned how to avoid becoming a victim by gaining skills to respond quickly and effectively to threatening situations.

7&4 News is told that more self defense workshops are in the works for the future. We'll be sure to update you, when those events are announced.
