MUSKEGON, MICH. (AP) -- A West Michigan prison that closed in 2011 has reopened and is expected to get its first new inmates next week.

220 prisoners are scheduled to arrive each day at the Muskegon Correctional Facility on Monday, Wednesday and next Friday. Officials expect that the prison's 1,338 medium-security beds likely will be filled by late November.

Muskegon Correctional Facility now has about 240 employees, including 130 corrections officers. Many of the prisoners being sent to Muskegon are from the Ryan Correctional Facility in Detroit.

The state Department of Corrections announced plans for the facilities earlier this year.

The Muskegon facility hasn't housed Michigan inmates since 2010, but was used for about 1,100 Pennsylvania prisoners until they were sent back in 2011.
