GRAYLING, MI -- The state representative race in Michigan’s 103rd District is anything but unique. A democrat looking for change, hoping to beat out a republican incumbent, campaigning hard on the “success” he has had in Lansing.

“Getting Michigan back to work…that has been a huge thing and right off the bat we addressed one of the worst business tax structures in the country. And by changing that corporate tax and allowing our small businesses and our family businesses to pay a tax, 4.35%, just like the rest of the citizens, that was a huge thing,” said State Representative Bruce Rendon – R.

If reelected, Rendon said he plans to continue to focus on school funding equity in our state.

Democrat Lon Johnson will take on Rendon in November.

He hopes voters will choose his personal values over his opponent’s experience.

“Work hard, play by the rules, and never give up. Those are the lessons and values I learned from a family with five generations of northern Michigan history. Those are the lessons and values that I used for the last 20 years, helping to give people a voice. I was the first generation in my family to go to college. I was in Iraq in 2005, as a civilian, working to create a democracy there so our troops can come home,” Johnson said.

Johnson has been very vocal, criticizing cuts to education approved by Governor Snyder.

Rendon stands by his party's strategy that he said created jobs and balanced the state budget ahead of schedule.
