ROMULUS, MICH. (AP) -- It's been 67 years since their B17 Flying Fortresses lumbered off the runway for their last World War II bombing mission over Europe, but members of the 483rd Bomb Group haven't forgotten.

Nationwide members of the group will gather for their 34th annual reunion this Saturday at the Detroit Metro Airport Marriott.

Former Staff Sgt. Harry Millnamow of Farmington Hills, a bombardier in the 483rd, tells the Detroit Free Press the "brotherly" bond shared by the group is tough to explain. The 94-year-old retiree says the group has been gathering since 1979.

The 483rd played a significant role in World War II. Its four squadrons of B17s flew 215 combat missions from April 1944 to April 1945 and earned two distinguished unit citations.
