MANISTEE, MI -- State Representative Ray Franz was part of the Republican wave that swept through Lansing in 2010. In November, he is hoping voters still think he is the man for the job.

“I’m one (representative) that is actually working with the other side. We actually work together to get things done. Our farm bill had 19 democratic cosponsors; the tenure reform was a bipartisan effort. We are working together with the other side and getting things done that are improving the state of Michigan,” Franz said.

Franz is a Vietnam veteran.

Before running for state office, he sat on the Onekama Village Council for 28 years.

Democrat Allen O'Shea will face off with Franz on November 6.

The business owner said he will use his 40 years of experience in the private sector to help create jobs in the state of Michigan.

“I want to reinvigorate the business world with emphasis on clean businesses and clean environmentally sound business. I don't believe the environment and the economy have to be in conflict with each other,” said O’Shea.

If elected, O'Shea said he will fight to roll back taxes on the middle class and seniors.

He also hopes to restore funding for public education.

O'Shea has previous experience serving as chairman of the Manistee County Commissioners.

At one time, he was also the president of the Kaleva Norman Dickson School District
