UpNorthLive's Facebook fans voted to hear more about some fundraisers for animal shelters taking place across northern Michigan.
The Cheboygan County Humane Society is hosting its first of several Soup Suppers this week to help homeless animals.
The first event will take place Friday from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Volunteers will be dishing out several different homemade soups, bread, and desserts at the Iverness Township Hall in Cheboygan. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. More information can be found on the Cheboygan Humane Society's website or by calling 231-238-8221.
Several other soup suppers are planned in Cheboygan. The dates are: Oct. 26, Nov. 16, Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 22.
If you want to enjoy the great outdoors with your favorite pup, there are also several walks planned to raise money for other shelters in the area.
The Manistee County Humane Society wants you to Strut Your Mutt on the riverwalk in Manistee. You can register and help raise money for homeless pets before the walk on Sunday, Sept. 30. The community event starts at the Marina at 1pm and continues until 3pm.
Prizes will be handed out for the top fundraisers. Everyone who registers gets a t-shirt and a dog bandana. After the walk you can enjoy music and some snacks. Information on Strut Your Mutt can be found at the Manistee Co. Humane Society or by calling 231-732-0144.
Another walk in Kalkaska is being called "The Mutt March". The 5k dog walk for a cause will take place Saturday, Oct. 13. Registration begins at 11:30am at the Kaliseum Pavilion. The pack leaders will start the walk at 1pm. A $10 donation per dog will help build some new digs for homeless dogs and cats at the Kalkaska Animal Shelter.
