TRAVERSE CITY -- The man police believe attacked a woman on the TART Trail was officially charged with the crime.

David Walter was charged Tuesday morning with attempted unlawful imprisonment and assault.  Walter turned himself in to authorities Monday after he found out he had an arrest warrant issued against him.

Last Sunday, a woman walking her dog on the Boardman Lake Trail says a man approached her from behind, placed her in a bear hug, and tried to force her into a wooded area. She fought back and got away unharmed.

The Michigan State Police worked with the victim on a sketch of the subject. Sheriff's investigators spent several days putting together a line-up and following up on several tips. Monday morning a warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest.

The Judge set Walter's bond at 10-percent of $10,000.  He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 9 at 11am.
