GRAND RAPIDS -- A northern Michigan father has been convicted of aggravated sexual assault and first degree murder in the death of his three month old daughter.

According to reports, Steve Deuman was found guilty by jury today in federal court in Grand Rapids. According to court records, a judge set sentencing for February 28th, 2013.

First degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Deuman was arrested in August of 2011 on tribal land in Peshawbestown.

Autopsy results showed the 3 month old was asphyxiated by an artificial blockage of her airway.

Deuman allegedly told investigators that the girl fell off a bed and accidentally choked on a discarded condom.

A forensic pathologist for the FBI said Deuman's version of events did not add up, and the FBI alleged Deuman killed the girl during a penetration, or attempted penetration of aggravated sexual abuse.
