MANISTEE -- If you're looking for a good scare this fall, head to Manistee - where preparations are already underway for this Halloween season.
The S.S. City of Milwaukee has begun it's transformation into a ghost ship! Built in Wisconsin, the ship was used to carry railroad cars across Lake Michigan, and is now a museum and a bed and breakfast open April-October.
A group of four to five people met a few months ago to come up with ideas for this year. Every year the design is different, as are the volunteers, making it something to visit each fall.
This Halloween, the 1920's ship will have five decks of fright - taking you through graveyards, butcher shops, and creepy mazes.
Almost all of the materials and decorations are donated by local businesses, and built by volunteers. The money raised goes into keeping the ship open.
Linda Spencer, the general manager, stated "At the end of the night or when people are coming through, standing out here and watching their faces, they're giggling and laughing and they're just having so much fun - seeing the pictures of them being scared and the screams! That's the best part - knowing that we're providing something that everybody loves to do."
Spencer said about two thousand people come through the ship each year. They welcome all ages, but recommend that children under the age of seven do not go through. It's estimated to take about half an hour to go through the whole thing, and there are emergency exits.
