(AP) -- Memorials and community service events are planned across Michigan on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Public remembrances are planned in many places, including Traverse City.  From sunrise to sunset Tuesday, hundreds of boy scouts and volunteers will gather for a special 9/11 Scout Salute at the new 9/11 Memorial Park.

The Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department is inviting community members to view the memorial park.  Phase one of the project is now complete with the placement of a large steel beam from the World Trade Center's North Tower.  The memorial is located behind the GT Metro Fire Dept. on Parsons Road.

The 9/11 Memorial Service begins at 8:30am.

Memorial services are also planned in other parts of Michigan.  A large group is expected at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, where the President Ford Council of the Boy Scouts of America will lead a memorial service.

Ford Motor Co. employees continue service projects as part of the global Ford Global Week of Caring. Volunteers in the Detroit area will be painting, renovating, planting and building at shelters, care centers and other nonprofit facilities.  Other service projects taking place can be found by clicking here.

During its Tuesday session, the Michigan House of Representatives plans to honor first responders across the state for their service.

The Michigan Senate has designated Sept. 11-17 Michigan Patriot Week.
