GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Republicans have selected Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Colleen O'Brien as their third nominee for a seat on the state Supreme Court.

O'Brien joins justices Stephen Markman and Brian Zahra on the three-person ticket in the Nov. 6 election. The nominations of Markman and Zahra never were in doubt Saturday. The only real contest at the Republican Party's state convention in Grand Rapids was O'Brien against appeals court Judge Jane Markey.

Political parties nominate people for the Supreme Court, but the candidates don't appear on the ballot with party affiliation.

Republicans control the court, 4-3. Markman has been a justice since 1999. Zahra was appointed last year by Gov. Rick Snyder and is running to fill the remaining two years that belonged to Maura Corrigan, who resigned.
