LELAND -- The drowning death of a teen is prompting a local community to take a closer look at swimmer safety at one of its beaches.

We first reported last week that three swimmers found themselves in trouble after getting caught in rip currents. The separate incidents happened off Van's Beach in Leland within minutes of each other.

16-year old Brian Rolston, a Leland High School Junior drowned. Two others had to be rescued.

Monday night, the Leland Township Board will be discussing whether or not warning signs and rescue rings on the beach will prevent tragedies like this from happening again.

The meeting starts at 7:30p.m. at the Leland Township Library.
