OKLAHOMA CITY, -- One Oklahoma student was asked to turn his shirt inside out because it did not follow the schools dress code, according to a report from KWTV News 9.
What was wrong with his shirt?
It was maize and blue.
Although he can't support his family's favorite team, University of Michigan, he is allowed to wear Oklahoma Sooners or Oklahoma State Cowboys gear. Per the dress code, only in-state college apparel can be worn.
The child's mother, Shannon Barton, told News 9 "they should really worry about academics." Adding, "It wasn't offensive. He's 5."
Barton says the principal asked her 5-year-old son, Cooper, to turn his shirt inside out. He changed behind a tree on the playground.
The incident has led to talk that the school district should re-evaluate its dress code rules, which were set in 2005 with an Anti-Gang Task Force.
District spokeswoman Tierney Tinnin says Superintendent Karl Springer thiks the policy might be outdated.
