WATERVLIET TOWNSHIP (AP) -- Authorities in southwestern Michigan say they're investigating the death of an infant and have arrested the child's father.

The Berrien County sheriff's department says the child died after being taken by ambulance from Cobblestone Village Apartments in Watervliet Township on Monday and flown by helicopter to a Kalamazoo hospital. Authorities had responded following a report that the child wasn't breathing.

The department says the arrest was made due to "suspicious and unusual" circumstances involved in the call. An autopsy was planned for Tuesday in Lansing.

The child's name wasn't immediately released. Updated information was expected to be released later in the day.
