CHARLEVOIX CO. -- A 16-year-old girl died as a result of a rollover car crash late Sunday night.
The victim, Thandiwe Baton-Stawson, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was originally reported to be unconcious but was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial reports from the Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office indicates that the driver, Anna Rieker, also 16, may have swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
Rieker was airlifted to Harbor Springs Airport and transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.
Her injuries remain undisclosed at this time.
Both the victim and the driver were visitors to the island at the time of the crash.
