(AP) -- The state has started the search for a Christmas tree to decorate the Michigan Capitol lawn this year.

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget said Monday that the tree should be a 65-foot spruce or fir.

The department says it's working with the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association to bring the tree to Lansing.

Department deputy director Phil Jeffery says the state will go to the site of the selected tree and do the work of removing it from the owner's property.

The state says the tree must have a maximum crown of 30 feet, a maximum trunk diameter of 30 inches and easy access.

Nominations are due by July 31, 2012, and should be emailed to ChristmasTree(at)michigan.gov.
