The Transit of Venus will be visible Tuesday and there are several free programs and opportunities to safely view the phenomenon.
The Transit of Venus is a rare event where the planet Venus makes two 6-hour trips across the sun. The first happened in 2004, and after this Tuesday, it won't happen again until 2117.
The Headlands International Dark Sky Park in Emmet County are planning several events for safe viewing of the transit on Tuesday. Events include an informational presentation by the Dark Sky Park Program Director, telescopes, solar shields, and photo equipment, a Diversity Hunt for 4th-7th grade children, Beach Botany for adults, and a sunset ceremony. There will be many other fun activities.
The trio, Simple Gifts, will be playing throughout the event.
