A survey has been released by the National Federation of Independent Business concerning employer access to an employees social networking account.
The survey is in reaction to House Bill 5523 which would prohibit employers from asking applicants and employees for passwords and private account information for social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter. The bill also keeps employers from firing someone - or failing to hire someone - if they withhold that information.
The legislation stems from reports that employers were requesting access to employee - and prospective employee - Facebook accounts.
The survey asked "Do you support legislation to prohibit employers from requesting passwords for social networking account access from employees or applicants?"
The survey polled small business members of the NFIB, and found that 68 percent supported the legislation, 27 percent opposed, and five percent were undecided.
