A 32-year old Grand Rapids man who lead state police on a high-speed chase reaching speeds over 100 miles an hour has been arrested, but it wasn't easy.

This all started when a deputy sheriff in Manistee County caught the man speeding on M-115 near Rice Road in Cleon Township.  The trooper tried to pull the man over, but he took off.  The chase reached speeds of 110 miles an hour before the man crashed into a guardrail on M-115 at Big Spring Road.  The suspect left his car in the middle of the road where it burst into flames and he took off running into the woods.

Shortly after that, a man contacted state troopers to say he had given the suspect a ride.  Troopers found him and pursued him on foot towards Crystal Lake, where he jumped in.  He stayed in the water for 20 minutes.  Deputies and troopers had to use boats to pull him out of the lake.  He was still uncooperative and had to be tasered.

The man's name has not yet been released.  Troopers believe alcohol is a factor in the incident.

The suspect is being held in the Manistee County Jail facing multiple charges including: Fleeing and Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated, Driving While License Suspended, Resisting and Opposing a Police Officer and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
