The Grand Traverse County Road Commission will replace Mary Gillis when her contract expires.
GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- The Grand Traverse County Road Commission will not be renewing its manager's contract .
The Commissioners voted on the future of the position Thursday and decided to not renew the contract with Mary Gillis When it expires Oct. 16. She has been in charge of the Grand Traverse County Road Commission for six years.
Marc McKellar, Chair of the Board of Road Commissioners tells 7&4 News the board made the decision now to give Gillis time to search for a new job.
"This is not a knee jerk reaction. She is not being terminated or fired, her contract is going to expire and we are not renewing," explained McKellar. "This was a very difficult decision and a well thought out process."
The board will move forward at some point soon on the process of finding a replacement for Gillis.
