TRAVERSE CITY -- UpNorthLive's Facebook fans voted to hear more about a local volunteer project. A community garden is looking for helpers to get their hands dirty to help feed the hungry.

The garden is a part of the "Help Feed Your Community" project which provides vegetables to area organizations to offer free food to those in need. The garden is it its second season and because of the growing demand, it has been expanded this year. The volunteer work will include irrigation tubing and readying the soil.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. The group will meet at 8:30 on Saturday at the Central United Methodist Church downtown Traverse City. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves and shovel. for more information, contact John Ellinger at johnwe1@charter.net.
